Mercedes-Benz GLC
It takes the comfort of the larger Mercedes models and brings it into a manageable size: the suspension is softer than that of the Q5 and X3, and on broken roads the difference is immediately apparent. This is the mid-size SUV to choose if the main criterion is travelling in comfort rather than driving keenly. Its technical highlight is the 300 e's electric range: a claimed 130 km is a class-leading figure for a plug-in, enough to cover a full week of urban trips without ever starting the engine — provided you have somewhere to charge, otherwise the plug-in becomes dead weight and drinks more than a diesel. The interior, with its vertical screen and ambient lighting, makes an impression, though the profusion of touch controls does not please everyone. The boot is slightly smaller than the Q5's.
