The best seat is in the back: in Autobiography trim it reclines, has a leg rest, dedicated screens and sound insulation tuned by engineers to recording-studio levels — people speak quietly inside. The air suspension reads the road ahead with a camera and prepares the dampers before the wheel meets the pothole. Off-road it carries Terrain Response, wades 90 centimetres of water and raises itself substantially: capability ninety-nine percent of owners will never use, but which is there. The drawbacks are well known and worth stating: heavy fuel consumption, considerable bulk in town, and a historic reputation for less-than-perfect reliability.
